Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to examine loyalty formation, including service quality, perceived value, image and satisfaction as determinants, and their effect on the financial performance of Islamic banks.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 280 Islamic bank clients in Indonesia and bank financial performance data from bank financial reports. Variance-based partial least square modelling was used to assess the relationships between loyalty, its determinants and their influence on bank financial performance.

Findings

This study finds that client loyalty towards Islamic banks is most influenced by perceived service quality and perceived value. Further, this study documents the importance of client loyalty in influencing bank financial performance and indirect effect of clients’ satisfaction on financial performance through the strengthening of client loyalty.

Practical implications

This study offers a path for the managers of Islamic banks to enhance financial performance by enhancing client loyalty. To develop client loyalty, this study suggests that Islamic banks should offer economical and service-derived benefits that are superior to those other banks offer. Further, Islamic banks need to ensure that their business operations are compatible with Islamic values.

Originality/value

This is an early empirical study attempting to examine the link between customer loyalty and its impact on Islamic bank financial performance.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyse the adoption of mobile payment applications during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic using the technology acceptance model (TAM) and Technology Readiness Index (TRI).

Design/methodology/approach

The data were collected from 400 mobile payment application users in Indonesia. The structural equation model–partial least square (SEM-PLS) analysis was conducted to analyse the relationship between variables and test a series of hypotheses.

Findings

TRI constructs affect perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, with the exception of discomfort which has no significant effect on the perceived usefulness. In addition, attitude is influenced by two main TAM variables: perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Meanwhile, the intention to use mobile payment applications is influenced by attitude.

Research limitations/implications

This study will assist mobile payment application service providers and policymakers in planning services and increasing the adoption of mobile payment applications during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study will also add the existing knowledge about the mobile payment applications literature in the context of a pandemic.

Originality/value

This study is the first to empirically employ the TAM and TRI in analysing the adoption of mobile payment applications during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate brand loyalty in halal fashion brands through three loyalty routes, namely, quality-satisfaction-loyalty model, information sources and religiosity-loyalty model.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were gathered from 447 customers of halal fashion brands through a survey. The structural equation model partial least square was used to validate the hypotheses empirically.

Findings

From the perspective of customers in halal fashion, brand loyalty is primarily determined by brand satisfaction, which is influenced by the perceived quality, firm-generated content (FGC) and user-generated content (UGC). While religiosity contributes significantly to brand loyalty, it has no direct impact on brand satisfaction. Perceived quality and information obtained through both FGC and UGC channels have a significant effect on brand satisfaction. Finally, perceived quality, FGC, UGC, religiosity and brand satisfaction play important roles in promoting brand loyalty among halal fashion customers.

Research limitations/implications

This study will assist halal fashion companies in evaluating perceived quality, information sources (FGC and UGC) and religiosity to increase brand satisfaction and brand loyalty. This study expands to the existing knowledge about brand marketing literature on halal fashion brands.

Originality/value

This study is a preliminary empirical study that explains the three routes of brand loyalty through the quality-satisfaction-loyalty model, information sources and religiosity-loyalty model in the context of halal fashion brands. This study also provides insights for marketers and business managers to enhance brand loyalty in halal fashion brands.

Abstract

Purpose

The massive adoption of virtual reality (VR) applications has started since the COVID-19 pandemic, and until now, VR applications are still being used. However, there is limited research that analyses the consumer's perspective on the adoption of VR applications. Thus, this study discovers the adoption of VR applications in the hospitality sector by integrating the value-based adoption model (VAM) and VR quality.

Design/methodology/approach

The data were gathered through a survey of 500 respondents and evaluated through the structural equation model-partial least squares (SEM-PLS).

Findings

Employing SEM-PLS and importance-performance map analysis (IPMA), the findings revealed that VR quality and perceived value are essential determinants in the adoption of VR applications in the hospitality industry.

Practical implications

Practically, this study encourages the hospitality industry to create and develop high-quality VR application technology to benefit visitors. Through this study, hospitality marketing managers, governments and others concerned with the hospitality industry’s future development can create effective ways to increase the adoption of VR applications in this industry.

Originality/value

This study offers novel perspectives into the theory and application of VR quality and VAM in the adoption of VR applications in the hospitality industry.
