Abstract
Purpose
This paper seeks to investigate the differences in the teachers’ professional development (TPD) by mentorship in workplace. The authors examined the role of mentorship in the PD of teachers and conducted a meta-analysis of pertinent empirical data.
Design/methodology/approach
Using data from over 2,900 individuals, 66 experiments and 12 countries, the authors presented a meta-analysis of the association between workplace mentorship and TPD.
Findings
The authors concluded that mentoring activities could boost the TPD to some extent. It contributes positively to the discipline of science and language, kindergarten, individual mentoring and curriculum research. In addition, the periodicity should not exceed 1 year.
Research limitations/implications
The results of the meta-analysis are restricted to short-term mentorship activities, and the sample size is modest. Building upon the findings from the literature review and meta-analysis, the authors delineated a research agenda for prospective investigations. This includes an imperative for further exploration into the nexus between mentoring and the PD of educators.
Practical implications
Based on the available literature and meta-analysis findings, the authors developed a framework for the “Experts in the classroom” TPD pattern.
Originality/value
This is the first meta-analysis evaluating the association between mentorship and TPD.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the influences of positive-framed and negative-framed green advertising on pro-environmental WTP. This study also explores the impacts of regulatory focus, environmental concern and pleasant level on green advertising effectiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
Data are collected from a within-participant between-group online experiment in China. The generalized estimating equation (GEE) is employed to investigate the impact of green advertising on WTP. Grouped regression and mediation analyses are conducted to explore the influences of regulatory focus, environmental concern and pleasure on advertising efficacy.
Findings
The experimental outcomes indicate that green advertising significantly increases participants’ pro-environmental WTP, and negative-framed advertising is more effective than its positive-framed counterpart. Prevention focus heightens receptivity to green advertising, and the relation of environmental concern to advertising effectiveness is inverted U-shaped. Pleasure mediates the effect of green advertising on the WTP, and this mediating role is influenced by emotional intensity when advertising is negatively framed.
Originality/value
Evidence suggests that green advertising may propel pro-environmental WTP by raising environmental awareness, but such a relationship remains severely understudied. As such, this study pioneers in exploring the impact of different-framed green advertising on pro-environmental WTP, extending the concept of green advertising to environmental management. By considering the influences of regulatory focus, environmental concern and pleasure, this study raises practical implications for designing green advertisements, such as increasing the usage of visual elements.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present a novel position sensorless control scheme with fault-tolerance ability for switched reluctance motor at low speed.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the detection pulses are injected in the freewheeling and idle intervals of each phase. Second, the aligned position of each phase can be detected by comparing the consecutive rise time of detection current. Third, the whole-region rotor position and real-time rotational speed can be updated four times for the improvement of detection accuracy. Finally, the fault-tolerant control strategy is performed to enhance the robustness and reliability of proposed sensorless scheme under faulty conditions.
Findings
Based on proposed sensorless control strategy, the estimated rotor position is in good agreement with the actual rotor position and the maximum rotor position error is 1.5°. Meanwhile, the proposed sensorless scheme is still effective when the motor with multiphase loss and the maximum rotor position error is 1.9°. Moreover, the accuracy of the rotor position estimation can be ensured even if the motor is in an accelerated state or decelerated state.
Originality/value
The proposed sensorless method does not require extensive memory, complicated computation and prior knowledge of the electromagnetic properties of the motor, which is easy to implement. Furthermore, it is suitable for different control strategies at low speed without negative torque generation.

Abstract
Purpose
With the dramatic transformation of China’s industrial landscape, since the late 1990s, adaptive reuse of industrial heritage for cultural purposes has become a widely occurring phenomenon in major Chinese cities. The existing literature mainly focusses on specific cases, yet sees heritage conservation similarly at both national and regional scale and rarely identifies the main factors behind the production of China’s industrial-heritage reuse. The purpose of this paper is to examine the differences in heritage reuse outcomes among three Chinese mega-cities and explore the driving factors influencing the differences.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper compares selected industrial-heritage cultural precincts in Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing, and explores the local intervening factors influencing differences in their reuse patterns, including the history of industrial development, the availability of the nineteenth and/or twentieth century industrial buildings, the existence of cultural capital and the prevalence of supportive regional government policy.
Findings
The industrial-heritage reuse in the three cities is highly regional. In Beijing, the adaptation of industrial heritage has resulted from the activities of large-scale artist communities and the local government’s promotion of the city’s cultural influence; while in Shanghai, successful and more commercially oriented “sea culture” artists, private developers in creative industries and the “creative industry cluster” policy make important contributions. Chongqing in contrast, is still at the early stage of heritage conservation, as demonstrated by its adaptive reuse outcomes. Considering its less-developed local cultural economy, Chongqing needs to adopt a broader range of development strategies.
Originality/value
The paper contributes to knowledge by revealing that the production of industrial-heritage cultural precincts in Chinese mega-cities is influenced by regional level factors, including the types of industrial heritage, the spontaneous participation of artist communities and the encouragement of cultural policy.
