Abstract

Because of the consequences of changes in inflation, which affect the behavior of economic agents, the banking system, and the size of investments, high inflation provokes investors to withdraw funds from long-term projects and invest them in the banking sector. This effect reduces potential economic growth. In turn, the low level of inflation, which persists for a sufficient time interval of several years, indicates the stability of the national economy and attracts external and internal investors, contributes to economic growth. Based on this, it can be assumed that the presence of this relationship will be observed when analyzing data from national economies. Therefore, we can distinguish several hypotheses: inflation has a certain relationship with the indicator of financial development (h1); Inflation and financial development have a nonlinear relationship (h2); monetary policy implemented in the state can have a positive impact on the indicators of financial development, which will affect the dynamics of economic growth (h3). For this purpose, a sample was made from five countries: Germany, United States, Canada, China, Japan, and also Russia was selected in addition to them. This group of countries describes different aspects of the financial sector, as well as the level of economic development, so it will allow you to test hypotheses on a sufficient number of examples. The set of macroeconomic indicators of these countries is sufficiently studied, so it was easily amenable to econometric analysis.

Abstract

In this study, it is examined how to use long-term memory models for predicting the dynamics of cryptocurrencies. In this framework, all the most suitable models provide an adequate error at the level of a 5% confidence interval. The authors believe that the IGARCH and GJRGARCH models provide the best results in terms of modeling the volatility of the most popular cryptocurrencies. The IGARCH model is similar to the standard GARCH model with the addition of only the conditional volatility process with infinite memory. Due to the growing demand and interest in cryptocurrencies and crypto assets in general, the authors believe that they should be considered as a new segment of the financial market. There are many more questions about whether cryptocurrencies should be classified as currencies or as a commodity. Our analysis suggests that cryptocurrencies are financial assets. Most operations with them are carried out for investment purposes: either as long-term investments in new technologies, or in order to obtain short-term profits.

Abstract

In this study, it is examined how to improve the effectiveness of bitcoin market. In this framework, firstly, a wide literature review is made, and different factors that may be effective in this regard are identified. Afterward, an analysis is performed with Hurst method to determine which of these factors are more important. The study of cryptocurrency volatility is important in terms of financial instruments for hedging traditional assets, as well as in terms of pricing. The above results would be particularly useful in terms of portfolio management and risk management. This study discusses various financial issues related to cryptocurrencies, as well as some problems associated with the problems of their forecasting. To solve the problems of forecasting, the authors have not only studied, but also improved the forecasting method based on the machine learning algorithm in the MATLAB system using the tree model. Most of the analysis in the document relies heavily on studies by authors studying this issue. They can help make more informed decisions regarding financial investments and avoid the risks of using cryptocurrencies. The results may also assist regulators in creating a favorable legal environment for the functioning of the cryptocurrency market.

Abstract

Not many weeks back, according to newspaper reports, three members of the library staff of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies in London were dismissed. All had refused to carry out issue desk duty. All, according to the newspaper account, were members of ASTMS. None, according to the Library Association yearbook, was a member of the appropriate professional organisation for librarians in Great Britain.

Abstract

Purpose

Multinational corporations (MNCs) that want to compete in markets worldwide should not underestimate the influences of religion on consumer demand. Almost one quarter of the world’s population is Muslim so it is important for MNCs to get into the Muslim mind set when operating in countries where Islam has a large influence. The purpose of this paper is to assess the extent to which consumer-based brand equity in a religious market results from the psychological and behavioural characteristics of consumers rather than from product characteristics.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative survey method was adopted, using a total sample of 551 Muslim consumers in Malaysia and Pakistan. A holistic model conceptualising three potential psychological and behavioural predictors of consumer-based halal brand equity (CBHBE) was created and then tested using structural equation modelling.

Findings

The strength of an individual’s religious identity was found to be a strong predictor of consumer halal choice behaviour and perceived self-expressive religious benefits. Consumers’ halal choice behaviour and perceived self-expressive benefits directly predict CBHBE. Moreover, consumer halal choice behaviour partially mediates the relationship between self-expressive benefits and CBHBE.

Practical implications

The authors conclude that firms targeting Muslim consumers can maximise CBHBE by focussing their marketing strategies on the three psychological and behavioural constructs identified in the model. For example, by using halal certification logos and providing convincing information about the halalness of their brand, businesses can facilitate Muslim consumers’ search processes in relation to their choice behaviour.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the existing international branding literature in two main ways. First, it introduces and defines the concept of CBHBE. Second, it identifies and empirically validates the important psychological and behavioural predictors of CBHBE.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to shed some light on the role of video games within the media industry and IT sector, on its contribution to the production and distribution of digital content in emerging economies. It offers a case study on the role of mobile devices as a factor of transformation and shows how under changing socio–economic conditions, the transformations enabled the creation of digital ecosystems and innovative business models.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper is based on desk research, a review of literature and trade press and comments from experts and industry players.

Findings

The paper argues that as the internet is going mobile, driven by data – mostly video – the new mobile platforms are becoming the key for the distribution of content and mobile games. Whether it is the history of browser games in China, mobile games in India or PC games in Russia, each national gaming industry has required a unique strategy for making money, building on some prominent cultural factors and adapting to the local economic conditions. The paper reveals that video games are now clearly a vital part of digital content production in these countries, while stressing upon the role of public policies.

Research limitations/implications

The paper relies mostly on industry and consultancy data, as in such a fast-changing environment official data even when accessible are in most cases too old to remain relevant to identify the trends and the fast changing stakes. This calls for some caution about the data. Therefore, the data used should be treated as just signals of potential trends, sufficient to provide an appropriate overview of the evolution of the global mobile ecosystem.

Practical implications

This paper shows that the video games industry can serve as a pivot for the ICT industry. Besides, this prompts upstream and downstream industries of the entire digital entertainment market to thrive.

Social implications

The paper shows that companies from emerging markets companies have been betting on a combination of factors: the development of the economies, the growth of the mobile market, emerging middle-classes and young customers. It provides a growth model that appears to be close to a “regular” industrial growth model.

Originality/value

Although there is a growing academic literature on the video games industry, few research have been devoted to specific issues of emerging economies and to the role of video games within the media industry and IT sector.

Abstract

Purpose

This research looks at the link between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental performance, considering the immediate mutual interaction and the potential mediation of specific variables like green innovation and green human resource management (GHRM).

Design/methodology/approach

Partial least squares path modeling was used to investigate a sample of 460 respondents in multinational textile manufacturing companies in Ethiopia.

Findings

The findings of this study reveal a direct and positive relationship between CSR and environmental performance. In addition, the researchers observed an indirect effect on the relationship by using GHRM and green innovation as mediators.

Research limitations/implications

The study applied a cross-sectional methodology, and experts are not sure that CSR, GHRM, and green innovation in Textile manufacturing companies provide the same results over time. Consequently, future researchers can utilize the same method of investigation to see if outcomes change or stay the same over time. Second the study was conducted in Ethiopia. As a resut, it is possible that our study results will not be generalizable to other emerging nations. We propose expanding research to include more nations with developing markets.

Practical implications

Executives of textile manufacturing companies can adopt the present study framework of performance in developing economies to reduce waste, pollution and air emissions, and conserve water, energy and nonrenewable resources that enhance environmental performance.

Originality/value

The discovery of the present research makes significant contributions to the literature on the impact of CSR on environmental performance as a pioneering study by incorporating CSR, GHRM, green innovation and environmental performance under one research model in an emerging economy context.
