Abstract

Purpose

Research in this field is becoming increasingly clear that a teacher residency program (TRP) has a strong potential for developing effective teachers in a teacher preparation context. There are specific features of a TRP that yield results in the development of teachers. However, there are often barriers to full implementation of a TRP that schools and university partnerships must consider and resolve. The purpose of this article is to disseminate the lessons we have learned and processes we have developed in navigating the barriers and complexities of shifting toward a TRP.

Design/methodology/approach

The university faculty members with a dual role as Professional Development School (PDS) liaisons examine, reflect on, and present their multiyear process of moving from an undergraduate traditional teacher preparation model to a teacher residency model.

Findings

In response to the barriers of funding, defining roles and responsibilities, and changes in leadership, we developed an undergraduate residency blueprint to navigate these challenges productively. One of the goals of this document is to provide clarity for all stakeholders as well as be a transparent solution for leadership transitions. The blueprint serves as a guide for the details of residency program design.

Originality/value

In movement toward a TRP, there are often barriers to full implementation that schools and university partnerships must consider and resolve. This article provides a model for partnerships seeking to navigate teacher residency work.

Abstract

Purpose – The main objective of this study was to analyze the factors that affect the poverty level of the farming community after the tsunami that occurred in Aceh. After the conflict and tsunami, Aceh has faced severe poverty. However, the long years of conflict, political struggle, economic transformation, and natural disasters have caused Aceh to become one of the poorest provinces in Indonesia today.

Design/Methodology/Approach – The research was conducted in five districts in Aceh province: Aceh Barat, Aceh Besar, Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, and Aceh Utara. The total sample used in this study amounted to 280 farmers who were taken by stratified random sampling method. This research used primary data and secondary data. The analysis model used a logistic regression model with maximum likelihood.

Findings – The results showed that the poverty level of farmers is influenced by seven factors: education, experience, income, the number of family dependents, planting area, side job, and work motivation. The other factors such as age, farming tools, land ownership, and position in the community have no significant effect on the poverty level of the farmers.

Research Limitations/Implications – Implications of the results of this study show that financial assets are the most important factor in influencing each strategy implemented by farmers. The main obstacles faced by them are generally difficult to get credit because agricultural produce is uncertain.

Alberta is particularly representative of the multicultural nature of Canadian society. With over 40% of its population neither British nor French and ethno‐cultural groups expressing desires to preserve their heritage, a multilingual library service programme was instituted in Alberta to provide reading materials in languages other than French and English. The service's collection encompasses thirty languages with holdings being notified to local libraries via printed catalogues and libraries requesting titles to satisfy local needs. The service is seen as constantly evolving in line with changing user needs, utilizing consultation to assist libraries in analyzing and identifying ethnic requirements and undertaking studies to ensure satisfactory service development.

Abstract

A recent study found state bond bank participants continually realize considerable interest cost savings. Savings were calculated as differences in interest costs of bond bank loans and the bond offerings participants would have sold as alternatives to loans, (alternative market offerings). The present evaluation determines the sources of the savings. Savings are generated by not only differences in issue characteristics of bond bank issues and alternative market offerings, but also differential impacts of the same market forces and institutional factors on the interest costs of both types of sales. These findings verify that bond bank issues and alternative market offerings sell in different sub-markets, and confirm municipal bond market segmentation.
