Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to provide a causal framework for teacher burnout (BO) and work engagement (WE) by examining the factors that contribute to it and evaluating how progressive education (PE) affects teachers' performance in Higher education institutions (HEIs).

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses a multi-stage sampling technique with the help of computer random generation data from a selected list of teachers. The survey has two sections; the first consisted of a questionnaire of PE, BO, WE and organizational outcomes and the second contained four items to measure the demographic variables. The researcher contacted 745 teachers and asked them to fill up the questionnaire but the authors received only 498 useable responses.

Findings

The results of the study confirmed that moderating role PE reduces the BO of the teachers of HEIs and increases WE. The job demand-resource (JD-R) model was also validated in the Indian context and the model was found suitable for the Indian sample.

Research limitations/implications

The study has been conducted to manage BO and teachers' engagement in HEIs and the result suggests that the Management of HEIs should value PE characteristics as a crucial component of the educational process. PE encourages academic engagement among professors and students in HEIs.

Originality/value

The study tests the moderating role of PE with the JD-R and the JD-R model in the higher education system in India, which is rarely tested. The study's integrated approach to BO and WE, which provide insight into both viewpoints and aids in employees' poor health.

Abstract

Purpose

Employee engagement (EE) continues to be one of the most difficult challenges for organizations today. Numerous factors have been linked to EE, according to studies. However, the necessary human resource management (HRM) strategies and systems for enhancing EE have not yet been developed. It is questionable if all employees inside the company require the same HRM strategies, to boost engagement as one size does not fit all. Therefore, it is necessary to create employee profiles based on factors associated with EE. This study aims to develop employee profiles based on engagement dimensions and outcomes. It seeks to comprehend the relationship between engagement level and factors such as age, years of service and employment grade.

Design/methodology/approach

Using latent profile analysis (LPA), we identified five EE profiles (highly engaged, engaged, moderately engaged, disengaged and highly disengaged). These five profiles were characterized by five EE dimensions (Culture Dimensions, Leadership Dimensions, People Process, Business alignment Dimension and Job Dimension) and EE outcomes (Say, Stay and Strive).

Findings

The study revealed that Engaged profiles exhibited low stay outcomes. The highest percentage of disengaged employees fall under 25 years of age with less than 5 years of experience and are at the entry level.

Research limitations/implications

The study highlights the significance of the people processes dimensions in enhancing engagement. Profiles with low people process dimensions showed high disengagement. Person-centered LPA adds and complements variable-centered approach to develop a better understanding of EE and help organizations devise more personalized strategies. The study would be of interest to both academics and practitioners.

Originality/value

The novelty of this study lies in its attempt to model the employee profiles to comprehend the relationship between engagement levels using LPA.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to investigate the association between Entrepreneurial Education (EE) and Entrepreneurial Intention (EI) and the multiple mediation model of Creativity and Entrepreneurial Motivation (EM).

Design/methodology/approach

The study employed a sample of 300 students who have studied entrepreneurial development courses (short-term and vocational courses) from higher educational institutes located in four States of Northern India. The data were analyzed by employing the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique.

Findings

The investigation revealed that EE has a significant association with EM and EI but not with creativity. It is also seen that EM facilitates the affiliation between EE and EI, but creativity does not.

Practical implications

The investigation results help the Institution, Policymakers, Government, to include entrepreneurial activities in their programs.

Originality/value

EE primary objective is to develop skills and knowledge that can propel them into a journey of EI and entrepreneurship. Although EE and EI have studied at large, there is hardly any study that talks about motivation, creativity and practicality in their program.
